Overview Training

On March 11, City-Wide's Executive Director Louise Seeley presented the first of the 2008 Training Series Workshops presenting "An Overview of Housing Court."

We are now at work on a video that will present similar introductory information on housing court's history and function.

Work Advantage

On March 25, over 70 people attended the training on the city's set of rent subsidies collectively referred to as Work Advantage. Josh Goldfein of the Legal Aid Society and Lindsey Davis of the Coalition for the Homeless presented the workshop.

Housing Court Programs

On April 8, Rochelle Klempner of the Office of Court Administration, Lauren Donnelly of the Legal Aid Society and Amy Taylor of Legal Services NYC presented information on the various programs that are available at the court, including:

  • Volunteer Lawyer for the Day
  • Resolution Assistance Program
  • Court Interpreters
  • Housing Help Program
  • Senior Citizen Assigned Council Program
  • Guardian Ad Litem Program
  • Interactive Assistance Programs (A2J)
  • Volunteer Lawyers Project

NYCHA Termination of Tenancy Procedures

On April 15, Jacqueline Burger of Community Service Society and Lisa Burriss of the Public Housing Residents of the Lower East Side presented information about the New York City Housing Authority's termination of tenancy procedures.

Getting Repairs

On April 22, Bob Kalin and Mark Rivlin of Housing Conservation Coordinators presented information about how people can use the Housing Court to compel their landlords to make repairs to their apartments and to common areas of their buildings.
