The
Task Force operates a telephone assistance hotline from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m., Monday to Friday: 212 962 4795.
During the hotline hours, the staff and volunteers provide information
regarding enforcement of housing code violations and other landlord/tenant
issues to New York City residents, community based organizations,
and other service providers.
You
can also call our hotline if you need help paying back rent IF you:
1) experienced an unexpected event or emergency (i.e. death in the
family, serious medical illness, loss of job, reduction in hours
at work) and 2) you can afford your apartment (i.e. if your income
is lower than your rent, generally speaking you cannot afford your
apartment - there are exceptions, though, so please call). City-Wide
does not provide financial help -- we will refer
you to a charitable organization if you meet the criteria.
You
can also contact our central office between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
at (212) 962-4795 or by fax at (212) 962-4799. In Queens please
call (718) 657-0599.
In
partnership with the United Way, the Task Force also provides referrals
to community organizations that provide FEMA and other financial
assistance to tenants who owe back rent and have been sued by their
landlord.
